Math for Kids
Math skills are important for your child's success in school and in his
everyday life. Mathematics is a way of thinking, it should be enjoyed
and not feared. Understanding math enables your child to:
- Develop their self-confidence
- be observant and curious
- explore and gather relevant information that can help solve the
problem
- solve problems using the information they have gathered
themselves
- explain their solutions
Children can easily understand math procedures and concepts when they
can connect it with their own experiences. Let them explore and gather
some information they may use as the solution to the problem.
Allow them to express their ideas as they explain their solutions.
As parents we should encourage our children to learn math, let them know
that learning math is fun and easy. Never ever say "I hate math" or I'm
not good in math" in front of your children, just be positive with your
math ability. Let them know that everyone are capable to solve the
problem.
Point out the importance of math in your child's everyday life. Let them
experience some activities that involves math such as measuring the
ingredients, counting out utensils and plates and making purchases. Do
not discourage your child when they made some errors, treat them as
opportunities for your child to learn more and explore new things.
